West Indies finally played to their potential in the super eights round of the World Cup, defeating Bangladesh by 99 runs. Interestingly, this is the first win for the hosts in this round after heavy defeats to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. West Indies will now play their last match against England for the fifth position.
Bangladesh had opted to field first on a fast and bouncy Barbados pitch. West Indies top order struggled to cope with the pace and swing of Mortaza and Rasel. The run rate was hovering at around 3 run per over until 30 odd overs. But then Ramnaresh Sarwan played a superb knock, helping West Indies to post a total of 230 run. In reply, Bangladesh struggled from the start and was never really in the game. Powell grabbed three wickets for the West Indies while Collymore, Bravo and Gayle got two wickets each.
